The North American International Auto Show http://www.naias.com  in Detroit, Michigan is coming up in January 2012.   I attended the Detroit International Advanced Manufacturing Technology Show at Cobo Center www.DIAMTS.com.  The event started on October 3rd - 8th, 2011 & was in Detroit, Michigan. I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Zifeng Nie, the President of the Detroit Chinese Engineer Association www.detroitengineer.org setting up his booth for the event. Two speakers at the DIAMTShow were Dr. David Cole the Chairman Emeritus of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) http://www.cargroup.org and Dr. David Chang the former Chief Scientist for GM www.gm.com at the Planning & Locomotive Center; he worked for GM for 35 years.  Dr. Chang is now a consultant and he gave an excellent presentation on the hi-tech capabilities of Taiwan China at the DIAMTS conference, for example he talked about how Taiwan is an island of innovation with 45 R&D (Research & Development) Centers including such U.S. based companies as HP www.hp.com, Dell www.dell.com, and IBM www.ibm.com. Wayne State University has formed parnterships with 2 schools in China, the school are:

He also told the audience how Taiwan has 5 of the top 25 Universities in Asia including his alma matter The National Taiwan University http://www.ntu.edu.tw/engv4/.  Taiwan is also a leader in nano-technology. The U.S., China, Canada and Europe are the leaders in green technologies and two key technologies spaces that are and will attract venture capital are green technology and nano-technology; both subjects are covered in the book Training Today's Youth for Tomorrow's Technology available on Amazon www.amazon.com.  Green technologies include solar power and technologies that will increase the supply of clean water.   An excellent report on how precious clean water is can be read in IEEE Spectrum magazine www.spectrum.ieee.org in the July 3rd 2010 issue called Water Vs. Energy.   Solar power energy generation is an area where the U.S. and China are fighting for the best companies, Detroit, Michigan and Silicon Valley are the leaders in green car technology in the U.S. though Windsor, Ontario Canada may be ahead of both U.S. cities in this area. Did you know that the world's fastest super computer (mainframe) is in China?  The United States and private companies are working on a project to reclaim the fastest mainframe computer title, Japan has the second fastest mainframe computer in the world, the previous fastest US mainframe was made by IBM www.ibm.com with the Z OS (operating system).

When seeking funding from venture capital/angel investors; if you have a strong proposal, and good underlying technology for your concept keep trying, along with fine tuning your elevator pitch & business plan you need a good IP Attorney to protect your idea. President Obama has signed the America Invents Act, the first major overhaul of U.S. patent law in decades. In case you are a start up company you may want to check out www.techtransfer.umich.edu U of M's Tech Transfer website, they work with an average of 10 start up companies a year, rank in the top 10 of all U.S. universities in helping startups do spinoffs along with technology licensing.
